Today we had the pleasure of having Sudheer Marsetti speak to us at Metis. Currently a Senior Data Science Director at Aetna, Shdheer was very open in sharing about the data science group that he manages. Although he started off by admitting that he didn’t have a fancy presentation or talk prepared today, he spoke candidly.

Just wrapped up Week 4 at Metis and that means we’re 1/3 of the way through already. This week’s been very fun and challenging as we’re finally diving into supervised learning. It’s also more relaxing being the first week of our 3rd project. Here’s what we’ve been doing.

David Robinson of Stack Overflow came to speak at Metis on Thursday night. He was real and shared extensively about his experiences. I know most programmers find Stack Overflow to be essential when they hit a problem, so it was cool to hear his insights about the company. Here are some of the stuff he shared.

The "Roger-Ebertron": Modeling Roger Ebert's Movie Ratings

The “Roger-Ebertron v0.3” is my machine learning algorithm designed to learn how renowned late movie critic Roger Ebert would review movies today. This is Project 2 at Metis Data science. Codenamed Luther, our goal is to use web scraping, linear regression, and supervised machine learning techniques to look at an interesting question related to movie and film.
